Birkenstock Gizeh 43391 toe-post sandals in Stone

The Birkenstock Gizeh sandals in Stone (style 43391) are the toe-post take on the brand's classic footbed sandal: flat, lightweight and made for everyday wear through spring and summer on the coast.

Materials and comfort

The upper is Birko-Flor with a nubuck finish, Birkenstock's own synthetic material, which has a soft, velvety feel on the outside and a soft backing on the inside. The real star is the contoured cork-latex footbed, lined with suede, which gradually moulds to the shape of your foot the more you wear it. Underneath sits an EVA sole, so the sandals feel light on your feet whether you're strolling the promenade or wandering round the old town. They're made in Germany.

Fit

They stay put with a toe post and a strap across the instep fastened by a metal pin buckle, so you can loosen or tighten them depending on how your feet feel that day. With an open back, they slip on and off in seconds. For the first few days, wear them for shorter spells so the footbed can settle to your shape.

How to wear them

Stone is a soft, pebble grey that goes with almost everything: denim shorts, linen dresses, wide white or sand-coloured trousers and midi skirts. They're just as at home on the beach as they are on a wander through town or at lunch on a terrace.
