Birkenstock Arizona BF 1031501 Sandals in Sandcastle

The Birkenstock Arizona Sandcastle (style 1031501) is the classic two-strap sandal in a soft sandy beige that goes with practically everything. A Birko-Flor upper, cork footbed and EVA sole make it an easy summer staple for life on the Costa del Sol.

Materials and comfort

The upper is Birko-Flor, Birkenstock's own synthetic material: it stands up well to wear and wipes clean with a damp cloth, which is handy if you're forever heading to and from the beach. The contoured cork-latex footbed is lined with suede and gradually moulds to the shape of your foot the more you wear it. Underneath, a light, flexible EVA sole keeps them feeling barely there as you walk.

Fit

Each strap has its own metal buckle, so you can adjust the toe area and the instep independently. It's a flat, open-back slide with nothing rubbing at the heel, and you can slip them on and off in seconds. They're made in Germany.

How to wear them

Sandcastle is a properly versatile shade: try it with denim shorts, linen dresses, wide white trousers or a midi skirt like the one in our photos. They work just as well for a stroll round the old town as for a long lunch at a beach bar, and look great with raffia or tan leather bags.
