The Birkenstock Gizeh toe-post sandal in Mocca (code 43751) is the German brand's classic thong: completely flat, with a cork footbed and a T-shaped strap you can adjust with a buckle. An easy staple for summer on the Costa del Sol.

Materials and comfort

The upper is Birko-Flor with a nubuck finish, a synthetic material with a soft, matt look that's lighter than leather. The contoured cork-latex footbed is lined with suede, so it feels pleasant against bare feet. It has the deep heel cup and raised front edge of Birkenstock's original footbed, which help keep your foot settled in place as you walk. The sole is lightweight EVA, and the sandal is made in Germany.

Fit

The strap sits between your big toe and second toe and joins the side strap, where a metal pin buckle lets you loosen or tighten it to suit your instep. Cork feels firm at first, so it's worth wearing them for shorter spells over the first few days while you get used to them. They're backless, so they slip on and off in seconds.

How to wear them

Mocca is a brown with a soft grey undertone, and it works with most of a summer wardrobe: pleated skirts, linen dresses, denim shorts or relaxed cotton trousers.
