The Birkenstock Arizona EVA sandals in Roast are the lightweight, water-friendly take on the brand's best-known two-strap design. This version, 1027402, comes in a warm brown that goes with almost everything you'll wear in summer.

Materials and comfort

The upper, footbed and sole are all moulded from a single piece of EVA, and the sandal is made in Germany. That means it weighs next to nothing, copes happily with water and can simply be rinsed off after a day on the sand. The footbed keeps Birkenstock's familiar anatomical shape, with support under the arch and a deep heel cup, so your foot sits securely even on long days out.

Fit

Both wide straps have adjustable pin buckles, so you can set the fit across the toes and the instep separately and keep your foot held without pinching. As an open-back slide, it slips on and off in seconds, which is handy when you're heading in and out of the sea or the beach bar. The sole has a pronounced tread for a surer footing on wet poolside tiles or shower floors.

How to wear it
